Women Who Inspire

Meet Minaa B.

Minaa B. is not only a licensed social worker and mental health consultant, she is a writer and advocate for those whose voices have been made silent. Through her work with programs like Head Start, she is able to provide support and counseling. This work flows into her personal life as she makes it a point to practice self-care, as evident in her book Rivers Are Coming. Learn more about Minaa and how clothes fit into her daily life.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR CAREER PATH? I didn’t allow my struggles to define me. Instead they equipped me for my journey.
HOW HAS YOUR LIFE CHANGED SINCE WRITING RIVERS ARE COMING AND STARTING RESPECT YOUR STRUGGLE? It has made me more aware that there is still so much more work to do in the mental health community. People are grieving suicide but still won’t acknowledge depression. This motivates me to continue on my path and keep fighting the good fight against a disease that has touched so many.
WHAT DOES FEMALE EMPOWERMENT MEAN TO YOU? It means togetherness and inclusivity. It means we can be different and look different yet still have a seat at the table and honor each other’s values and opinions.
WHO INSPIRES YOU? My parents inspire me. They migrated from Panama to the U.S. with nothing except a dream and willingness to work hard. They passed that down to me and I am forever grateful.
